She was there

She was there

Like a pillow she was there

Cushioning the blow

Like a wall she stood fast

Not leaving his side

She was a well from which

He drew courage and strength

She was a tree that

Shaded and relieved him of the sunshine of pain

He felt not the pillow there

Knowing not why the hit was so soft

He saw not the wall

That blocked those dangers from him

He drew from the well

Not realizing he was doing so

He stood under the tree

He enjoyed the shade, but saw her not

But then the pillow was gone

And the pain was sharp

But then the wall crumbled

And he was so lonely

So the well ran dry

And he could not draw from it

So the tree withered and fell

And he was in hell

Then, he saw the pillow

So often protecting him

Then, he saw the wall

So often standing there

He remembered the well

From which he drank not water

He remember the tree

From which he drew solace

And tears ran like rivers

As her blood ran as well

His throat was sore with grief

As hers would feel no longer
